Oostblok
My friends at Oostblok were getting desperate with the state of their slow Wordpress setup and the cumbersome visual editor. With such beautiful content and so many projects in their portfolio, it was imperative to preserve the existing database while making everything around it lightning fast.
The approach was to write a brand new Wordpress theme from the ground up, making the php code and markup as lean as it could possibly be and then, combine it with every smart CSS selector and logical property we could throw at it. After that, we added some image optimization and caching plugins and the result is a website that is both easy on the eyes and suuuper friendly on the network load. Great success!
The homepage: a kickass hero video, a brief introduction and plenty of teaser content to look at.
Each of the major categories are teased on the homepage with links to archive pages for each category.
The showreel is the center piece on the portfolio landing page. While Oostblok produce a wide range of media, a large part of their portfolio are film and video productions (plus the guys are cinematic enthusiasts at heart) so a 'big screen experience' was very much desired. Using a few media queries we made the video player pop out of the grid on larger displays.
The Portfolio item page template contains a mix of standard blocks (project details, related content) as well as a freeform content so every portfolio piece can be presented in its own unique way.
